PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Powerball fever swept over the crowd at tonight’s Portland Winterhawks hockey game.

The team bought hundreds of tickets in the hopes that their fans could share the big jackpot.

3,482 fans showed up to tonight’s game against the Regina Pats. The Winterhawks won 4-1.

Tonight at Memorial Coliseum, fans were mostly there for what was happening on the ice, but the special pre-game sign up in the concourse was just as popular.

“We came up with the idea to buy 1,000 tickets and let our fans get in on the fun,” Winterhawks Director of Media and Public Relations Graham Kendrick said.

For the cost of admission to the game, all fans had to do was show their ID to prove their age and sign up.

“1,000 tickets, pay $20, you can’t beat that,” new fan Michael Cannaday said.

“Share the wealth, you know. Why not?” fan Colleen Goodrich said.

The head of marketing for the Winterhawks went out to buy the tickets at a nearby Safeway this morning.

“I don’t think people in line behind him were super thrilled about the wait,” Kendrick said laughing.

Tonight, we know the jackpot is out of reach, but these fans are still hoping for a little bit of the pot with their own tickets.

“I don’t care. I’ll take $50,” Goodrich said.

We know none of the Winterhawks tickets hit the jackpot, but if it hits anything smaller, the money will go to help out the Winterhawks local amateur hockey foundation.

The Winterhawks front office says they will wait to announce the results tomorrow.
