A woman got quite the surprise when she tried to return a jacket she bought online, only to find out the company wanted her to give it away instead.

Kelly Blue Kinkel posted on Facebook that she bought a coat from Zulily recently but decided against keeping it once it arrived.

"When I received my order, I could see through the packaging that the coat material wasn't going to work well with the two breeds of dogs we have. Coarse dog hair and certain materials don't mix," Kinkel wrote.

When she called Zulily and asked how to return it, the customer service representative offered her a full refund and told her to give the jacket to a friend or donate it.

"It took me a moment to realize he was completely serious, and then came the tears," Kinkel said.

Kinkel said in her Facebook post, "I sincerely hope this post goes viral," and it certainly has, with more than 88,000 likes and 43,000 shares as of Thursday afternoon.

Zulily isn't the only company to request customers donate unwanted items in lieu of returns. Tuft and Needle, which sells mattresses online, says it offers refunds on mattresses when they are donated to a charity or nonprofit.
