A man was sentenced to 10 days in jail and ordered to undergo alcohol abuse treatment for a crash into a patrol car that seriously injured a Portland police officer.

Gary Clark pleaded guilty to the charge of DUII in September 2015 and was sentenced in court Thursday.

He was arrested in February 2015. Police said an officer was driving eastbound on Southeast Stark Street and slowing down while approaching 155th Avenue when her patrol car was hit by from behind by a 1987 Dodge pickup.

It happened at 11:44 p.m. Feb. 27 and the officer was on the way to a domestic violence call.

The crash sent the patrol car up over the sidewalk and into a yard. Officer Allison Renander was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious, but not life threatening.

Clark was not injured, but officers noted signs of impairment at the scene. He was initially arrested on charges of DUII and reckless driving, but the grand jury dropped the reckless driving charge.

Clark was given credit for time already served in jail Thursday, while also being sentenced to two years formal probation and he must pay $34,800 in restitution.
