A Northeast Portland food cart pod fell victim to a burglar, who broke into at least five food carts early Thursday morning, and did a lot of damage in the process.

Bruce McMullen, who owns Big Ben’s Fish and Chips, said the burglar didn’t get into his food cart, but did damage his serving window, which he thinks will need to be replaced.

Police arrested 20-year-old John Lynch at Nick’s Parkrose Food Corral and Pub.  Officers said he had stolen only food and beverages.

McMullen said he’s sympathetic to the plight of those who might be down on their luck, but said he would have much rather fed the man than have to foot the bill for the repairs.

“Especially (because) I’m new. I just opened up here a couple weeks ago and I’m not even making enough. I’m not even breaking even yet,” said McMullen.

Lynch faces charges of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
