Multnomah Falls, OR (KPTV) -

Two hikers that went missing from a day hike Thursday have been found safe by rescue crews and reunited with their families early Friday morning, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Multnomah County rescue teams arrived back at the base of Multnomah Falls with Brianna Kondash, 20, and Hope Placencio, 20, from Salem around 2 a.m.

MCSO said Kondash and Placencio went for a day hike from the Wahkeena Trailhead around 2 p.m. Thursday. They continued to hike up to Devil’s Rest but took a wrong turn along the way.

The hikers used a cell phone to call for help around 7:15 p.m., according to officials.

According to rescue crews, Kondash and Placencio were able to start a small fire with their jackets to keep warm while they waited for help to arrive.

Rescuers said they located the women around 11:30 p.m. and were able to bring them back down by 2 a.m.

The women told rescuers that they were not injured and had limited emergency supplies with them, but they were not prepared to stay overnight.

MCSO officials said they escorted the hikers down to the base of the trailhead, where their families were waiting for them.

MCSO would like to remind any hikers in the area to plan ahead and take extra precautions when going out on the trails.
