BAKER CITY, OR (AP) -

Drivers in some areas of Oregon have only been able to pump their own gas for a few weeks, but already some stations are complaining.

The Baker City Herald reports that some station managers in Baker County have criticized the change, saying it hurt their employees.

A law allowing Oregon counties with populations less than 40,000 to have pumps that let driver purchase and pump their own gas between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. took effect Jan. 1. The law is not mandatory.

USA station and convenience store manager Amber Smith says she has had to cut her staff to one employee from 6 p.m. until close. She says many of her employees have started looking for new jobs because of the lost hours.

Other gas stations in the area have yet to upgrade to self-service pumps.
