A jury convicted a 72-year-old cab driver on charges including first-degree sex abuse involving a woman he picked up in north Portland.

The investigation began early the morning of Feb. 15, 2015. A 20-year-old woman said she had left a party the previous evening and was walking home when she got lost.

The woman told police she was picked up by what she thought was a taxi somewhere near North Columbia Boulevard.

The woman told investigators the driver sexually assaulted her before dropping her off near her home. The victim did not require immediate medical attention.

Sex Crimes Unit detectives and victim advocates worked with the woman over the course of several months to develop information in the case, eventually leading to the arrest of Hossein Tajipour in June.

Detectives learned Tajipour was working as a driver at Broadway Cab at the time of the crime.

A Broadway Cab spokesperson said the company fully cooperated with the investigation and used its GPS system to identify all off its vehicles that were in the vicinity of the incident.

Tajipour's contract as a driver was terminated when his identity was confirmed, according to Broadway Cab.

A jury found Tajipour guilty on three counts of first-degree sex abuse Friday, as well as charges of sodomy and coercion. He was found not guilty on three additional counts of sex abuse and one additional count of sodomy.

Tajipour is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 8.
