SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

An Oregon man who won $50,000 in Wednesday's Powerball drawing knew he was going to have to pose for photos holding an oversized check, so he decided it was time for a haircut.

He shaved off his Mohawk.

"It was a mess, but I liked it," said Lee Palmer of Coos Bay.

Palmer matched four numbers and the Powerball in the record-setting drawing for a $1.6 billion jackpot Wednesday.

Even though they didn't claim a share of the top prize, Palmer and his wife Dominique are still feeling pretty good about what they won.

The couple took home a little more than $33,000 after taxes.

"We were out and didn't check the tickets until 10," Lee Palmer said. "We immediately starting thinking about what we could do with the money. It's a blessing."

As an added bonus, Dominique Palmer said she is also feeling pretty good about her husband's new haircut.

Seven $50,000 winning tickets were sold in Oregon, from lottery retailers in Coos Bay, Grants Pass, Veneta, Baker City, Salem and two in Portland.

One of the $50,000 winning Powerball tickets sold in Portland has yet to be claimed.
