Pedestrian seriously injured after hit-and-run in NE Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man was seriously injured after police said a driver hit him, and then took off.

The incident happened just after 10:30 p.m. Friday on northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard at Jarrett Street.

Investigators learned that the victim, Daniel Greg Moore, 32, was crossing Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in the crosswalk, when he stepped out from the center safety island and was struck by the suspect, who swerved around a car that had stopped for the him.

According to police, the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and is expected to survive.

Several hours after the crash, the driver, Aronte McCollum, 23, turned himself in to police.

Police said McCollum gave them information on the location of the vehicle involved in the incident, a 1995 Buick Skylark.

McCollum was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and charged with hit-and-run, and will be arraigned on Tuesday.
