Lloyd Center ice skating rink to get makeover

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

One of the Lloyd Center's biggest attractions is getting a makeover.

Sunday was the last day of ice skating for a while. According to a post on the Lloyd Center's Facebook page, the rink will shut down to get a facelift.

The rink is used by experts and novices alike and is where Olympian Tonya Harding learned to skate.

To celebrate the last day before closing, there was a party at the rink earlier on Sunday. Fox 12 caught up with some skaters, who say they'll be sad to see it change.

"Oh a little sad, I mean, we spent a lot of time here between the ages of 5 and I think 10, so for five years we spent every Saturday here and most Wednesdays and it's going to be kind of sad that it's going to be a little different and not going to be the same," said skater Sarah Hines.

The rink is expected to be a bit smaller than it is now. It is scheduled to reopen later this year.
