Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and here is a list of a few events and closures happening in the Portland area. 

Preschoolers at Wild Lilac Child Development community will be cleaning up Essex Park SE 79th Ave. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

World Arts Foundation Inc. is hosting the event "Victory Beyond the Dream," which will feature speakers, art and musical tributes to Martin Luther King Jr. The event is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Highland Center, 7600 NE Glisan St. in Portland. 

The Oregon Food Bank is offering volunteer shifts from 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Oregon Food Bank's headquarters, 
7900 NE 33rd Dr. in Portland, and Oregon Food Bank West, 1870 NW 173rd Ave. in Beaverton.

The Boys & Girls Club is participating in several service projects today, from making pizzas for emergency responders to helping out with a plastic grocery bag drive. Learn more at .

United Way will have 2,000 volunteers throughout the Portland area working with local non-profits and schools in 72 community-based projects. 

All recreation fees will be waived for the day on lands owned by the U.S Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation.

All federal, state, and city offices are closed today, as well as the U.S. Postal Service and most banks throughout the area. 

Portland parking meters are free today in honor of the holiday.
