Airport workers at PDX protest low wages on MLK Day

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Airport workers in nine cities across the country, including Portland, used Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a day of protest.

Workers at Portland International Airport rallied in the baggage claim area to bring awareness to wages and other hardships they endure while trying to keep airports safe and secure for passengers, workers and communities.

They called for a $15 minimum wage, and some even want a union.

Workers say safety is a major issue.

"It's high demand fast paced, high turnover right now. We are looking at getting proper training, equipment right now, and not living in poverty," said Julie Hayden.

The rallies across the country are all part of the Airport Workers United movement
