Vancouver woman injured in house fire still recovering

Posted: Updated:

A Vancouver woman remains hospitalized two weeks after she was injured in a fire that destroyed her family’s home.

According to Eileen Priebe, a family friend, 23-year-old Whitney Olson has undergone surgery and had a skin graft to heal severe burns on her arm.  She had also, until this past weekend, been using a ventilator to breathe, after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Olson was briefly trapped in her home during the fire, and had to be cut out of the garage by firefighters.

To help with medical bills and other expenses, Priebe set up a GoFundMe account, which has already brought in more than $7,000 in donations from friends and community members.

“So many people in our network of community friends, school, church, wanted to do something.  They wanted to help,” said Priebe.

In spite of the situation, Priebe said the Olson family remains in good spirits, and is hoping for Whitney to make a speedy recovery.
