BEND, OR (AP) -

Former Gov. John Kitzhaber's fiance Cylvia Hayes has traded in making politics for a job covering them as a journalist.

The Bulletin reports that Hayes announced last week that she is covering a case against protesters who blocked oil trains in Washington for Issue Magazine, based in Bend. Her name appears on a staff list as one of several freelance writers.

She previously managed a blog and then wrote for Bend Level magazine.

Hayes was engaged to the former governor when the pair attracted a federal investigation into allegations that Hayes did private consulting work for organizations seeking to influence state policies. Kitzhaber resigned and the two moved to Bend.
