Deputies: 17-year-old arrested for eluding police in Marion Co.

MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Marion County Sheriff's Office arrested a 17-year-old male after he eluded police and crashed Tuesday afternoon.

MCSO said the juvenile was driving on Lancaster Drive NE near Ward and passed a deputy around 3:30 p.m. As the teen passed the deputy he accelerated rapidly and he was already exceeding the 35 mile per hour speed limit by 10 mph.

The deputy turned on his lights the driver took off northbound and continued to speed up. Another deputy, just up the road, was called and saw the car. That deputy also turned on his lights and tried to stop the vehicle.

The teen driver continued to drive recklessly and turned onto Portland Road NE.

MCSO said a short time later the vehicle was found after it crashed into a fence and a speed limit sign on Kale Street near Cordon Road NE.

The driver was arrested and taken to Marion County Juvenile Detention for reckless endangering, reckless driving and attempting to elude the police.

MCSO said two juvenile passengers were released to their parents.

No one was injured in the crash.

According to MCSO, the driver told deputies he ran because he did not have a license or insurance for his vehicle.
