The officer and the suspect’s weapon involved in a shooting in Beaverton Saturday morning was identified by police Wednesday.

According to Beaverton Police, officers responded to the report of an unwanted person at an apartment complex at the 10100 block of SW Murray Blvd. at around 5 a.m. Saturday. The suspect left the area, but later returned with a weapon at around 7 a.m.

The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Adam Karjalainen.

Police said Karjalainen was seen by the officers when they arrived at the scene for the second time.

Karjalainen allegedly was threatening towards the officers and advanced toward them with a replica of a Ruger MKIII in his hand, according to police reports

After ignoring repeated orders to drop his weapon, police said Karjalainen was shot by Officer Derek Vuylsteke.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said Karjalainen had told the woman he was living with that he was “going out in blaze of glory with the police that morning.”

Police closed a portion of Murray Boulevard for part of the day.
