PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a New Year's Day shooting in southeast Portland.

Borissean Washington, 20, was arrested Wednesday at a home on the 19100 block of East Burnside Street. A warrant was served by investigators, who were assisted by Gresham Police Department SWAT.

He faces charges including attempted murder.

The investigation started at 3 a.m. Jan. 1 when officers responded to reports of a disturbance across the street from a hookah lounge on the 12000 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard.

Dispatchers reported that there was a large fight with someone yelling in the background about shooting someone.

Officers arrived and found a 36-year-old man suffering from a serious gunshot injury. Two of the arriving officers were able to render life-saving medical aid with a compress, staunching the flow of blood.

The victim was taken to the hospital and survived his injuries.

A vehicle was also hit by gunfire.

Gang Enforcement Team detectives investigated and developed probable cause to arrest Washington as the suspected shooter, according to Portland police.

He was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of attempted murder, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

Anyone with information about this shooting should contact Detective Meghan Burkeen at 503-823-2092, meghan.burkeen@portlandoregon.gov.
