PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Terri Horman broke her silence of more than five years on the disappearance of her stepson Kyron Horman by granting an interview to People Magazine.

Kyron's mother responded Wednesday, saying she still believes Terri Horman is responsible for whatever happened to her son.

"It's an atrocity and Kyron needs to be the focus and not her," Desiree Young told FOX 12 on Wednesday.

In a phone interview, Young said she believes Terri Horman needs money and that's why she is now agreeing to talk.

In the interview with People, Terri Horman referred to Kyron as, "my son," and said she never harmed him.

"I don't think she earned the right to call him her son," Young said. "I think that she betrayed his love and trust that day."

Kyron was 7 years old when he was last seen at Skyline Elementary School on June 4, 2010. No arrests have ever been made in the case. Investigators have said Terri Horman was the last person to see Kyron, but she has never been named a suspect.

In response to a question about failed polygraph tests, Terri Horman told People she's deaf in one ear and had difficulty hearing the questions from detectives.

Terri Horman said she did everything she could in support of the investigation and search for Kyron.

Young disagrees.

"I just can't believe that she's been silent for five and a half years and then wants to come out and claim that she is not guilty of this or hasn't done anything," Young said. "But she hasn't done one thing to help us find him."

Detectives continue to work on the case, but declined to comment on Terri Horman's interview Wednesday.

There is a $50,000 reward in the case. Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office tip line at 503-261-2847.
