LEBANON, OR (KPTV) -

Two people were critically injured in a crash on Highway 20 involving an unloaded log truck and a heavy service truck.

Emergency crews responded to the highway between Lebanon and Sweet Home near Bauman's Mill at 6:55 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said Robert Mayfield, 54, of Sweet Home, was driving a 1998 International utility truck west on the highway when he crossed the center turn lane and continued eastbound until colliding head-on into a 2011 Kenworth log truck.

Firefighters said Mayfield and the log truck driver, 39-year-old Neil Nightengale of Sweet Home, were trapped in their trucks and had to be rescued.

They were both flown to hospitals with injuries described as critical.

A 2003 Subaru Legacy hit the log truck after the initial collision. That driver was not injured, according to police.

The investigation is continuing and police said it's not clear why Mayfield's truck crossed into the oncoming lane.

Highway 20 was closed for four hours following the crash.
