PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Multnomah County Animal Services is searching for a dog that ran away after it had surgery in southwest Portland.

Ross, a black and white pit bull, was taken from the county shelter Wednesday for the surgery at the Veterinary Surgical Center of Portland, 10245 S.W. Park Way.

County workers said the dog backed out of his leash and ran away during a bathroom walk at 10 p.m.

Workers were out all night looking for him, but Ross was not found. The dog was wearing a license.

County workers said his back side might appear swollen, but he likely won't show any other signs of injury.

Ross has been handled by various staff members at the shelter and shows no signs of aggression. Workers said he would likely approach if offered a treat.

"Ross is a very sweet boy, and he needs medical attention for a digestive problem," according to a Multnomah County Animal Services release.

Anyone who sees him and can confine him is asked to notify the department at 503-988-7387 or take him to the nearest veterinary clinic.
