Forest Grove HS Sparrow Club honors fellow classmate with brain tumor

FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A local girl is facing a serious health battle but she's not doing it alone.

16-year-old Chloe McCall is a junior at Forest Grove High School. On Thursday, hundreds of her classmates gathered as she was chosen as the school's "Sparrow."

The Sparrow Club is an organization of school-based clubs where students help support children and teens who are in a medical crisis.

The club adopts a Sparrow from the community but it's not often that the Sparrow is one of their classmates.

Last fall, Chloe started having regular and severe headaches. An MRI revealed a brain cyst and a tumor on her pituitary gland. It was blocking fluid from traveling down her spine, and she had to have brain surgery.

Doctors were unable to remove all of the tumor so she's facing more treatment.

Chloe is brave in the face of this health battle, but when it comes to standing in front of big crowds, Chloe admits it's a little scary.

"I competitively figure skate so when I train people are always watching me but not this many people. It's a lot of people. I remember going to the other Sparrow assemblies so I kinda knew what to expect, I was still scared though."

The Sparrow Club will help Chloe and her family both emotionally and financially.

They hold fundraisers for medical bills, and also do lots of little things like writing kind notes to let the family know someone cares.
