PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Experts are predicting large amounts heavy snow, ice and hail across the east and southeast regions.

Weather officials said about 75 million people are in the path of the storm. About 30 million people are expecting blizzard conditions.

Six states have declared a state of emergency and state officials are taking every precaution. Virginia’s governor activated 500 men and women from the National Guard in preparation for the storm.

Many Portland travelers said they are frustrated with the flight cancellations, but it is nothing new.

“It’s been going on since Wednesday,” said Catherine Corcoran, who is traveling back East. “[It’s] a long time. [We’re] finally getting out.”

United Airlines officials said they have suspended all flights from Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia and other regional airports this afternoon.

The National Weather Service said this storm could rank in the top ten ever to hit the region.
