HONOLULU (KPTV) -

The U.S. Marine Corps held a memorial service Friday for the 12 Marines killed in a helicopter crash in Hawaii last week.

The service began at 12 p.m. PT at the Marine Corps base in Hawaii.

The Marine Corps declared all 12 Marines dead Thursday, two days after suspending the search for them.

The Marines were performing a nighttime training exercise two miles off the coast of Oahu Jan. 14 when they collided and crashed into the water.

One of the Marines, Lance Cpl. Ty L. Hart, 21, is from Stayton, Oregon. He joined the Marine Corps in Aug. 2012.

Hart’s family said he was living his dream. He got married seven months ago and was enthusiastic about his career.
