Two officers were injured after a domestic violence call resulted in two arrests for fighting with police early Saturday morning, according to Portland Police.

Central Precinct officers responded to a home near southwest 1st Avenue and Gibbs Street at around 3:35 a.m. on the report of a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they could hear a female voice inside the home screaming in distress.

According to police, officers then knocked down the door to talk to the people living in the home.

Zachary Hartley Walen, 22, answered the door and was immediately combative with the two officers.

The two officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but Walen lunged at the officers and attempted to assault them.

As officers worked to take Walen into custody, he continued to violently resist, according to Portland Police.

Walen then attempted to run back into the home, where officers believed the female domestic violence victim was located.

Officers continued their attempts to restrain Walen and get him into custody.

Police said at the top of a flight of stairs leading to the front door, the struggle between Walen and the officers continued until Carina Corry, 23, came outside and began fighting with the officers.

The officers and Walen tumbled down the flight of stairs as the officers continued to try to get him into custody.

Eventually, officers were able to spray pepper spray and arrest Walen according to police.

Police said Corry was also taken into custody for assisting in the fight.

Both officers suffered injuries that required medical treatment at a local hospital.

One officer was released, and another officer remains in the hospital for observation and treatment.

Walen was booked into Multnomah County Jail and charged with assault in the third degree and assaulting a public safety officer.

Corry was booked on charges of assault in the third degree, assaulting a public safety officer, and interfering with a peace officer.
