Fire damages Forest Grove duplex, nearby homes evacuated due to gas leak

FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A fire in Forest Grove damaged a home and forced several other homes to evacuate due to a gas leak.

The fire was reported at a duplex located in the 2200 block of Kingwood Street around 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters said while they were battling the flames, they noticed the gas meter was damaged and leaking gas.

The risk for explosion meant five nearby homes were evacuated.

Crew were able to stop the leak and extinguish the fire.

No one was injured in the fire.

A total of 9 residents were displaced by the fire. They received assistance from the American Red Cross. 

Fire investigators believe a candle started the fire.
