PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A number of local, regional and federal agencies teamed up Tuesday to answer questions about the risk of a major earthquake in the Pacific Northwest and what we can do to prepare.

Using the hashtag #CascadiaEQ on Twitter and Facebook, FEMA, NOAA, USGS, the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup and others all pitched in with data and expertise on the topic.

Officials decided to hold the earthquake chat on Tuesday because it was the 316th anniversary of the last major earthquake to occur in the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

Scientists believe an earthquake with magnitude of 9.0 or higher shook the region on Jan. 26, 1700, triggering a tsunami that reached all the way to Japan.
