Gladstone mayor resigns citing personal reasons

GLADSTONE, OR (KPTV) -

Gladstone Mayor Dominick Jacobellis has resigned effective immediately, the city administrator announced Wednesday.

Jacobellis cited personal reasons for his decision. He was elected to a four-year term in November 2014.

City Council President Tom Mersereau will become the city's acting mayor and chair city council meetings.

Mersereau will serve as acting mayor until the city council meets to discuss the appointment of a new mayor.

City Administrator Eric Swanson said serving on the city council is like a second job, "and it is often quite a demanding one."

"Speaking on behalf of the city, we acknowledge the many hours of meetings and work that Mayor Jacobellis has given to Gladstone," Swanson said in a statement Wednesday. "We understand the need to put personal matters first and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
