Besaw's reopens blocks away from original location

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

After an eight month hiatus, a popular northwest Portland restaurant is back open for business.

Besaw’s had its grand opening in its new location Wednesday, and restaurant owner Cana Flug said it was a long, hard fought battle to get to where they are.

Besaw’s was formerly located at Northwest 23rd Avenue and Northwest Savier Street, where it had been for more than 100 years.

However, Flug and the building owner couldn't reach an agreement on the lease, leading Besaw’s to close at the end of May.

The battle continued, though, over the rights to the restaurant name, with Flug eventually paying off the former landlord.

The new Besaw’s spot is just a few blocks away on Northwest 21st Avenue and Northwest Raleigh Street, and Flug said this whole ordeal has been absolutely worth it to reopen.

"At the end of the day, this is the best thing that has ever happened to us,” she said. “And while we have such a long road to go to really get to the place we want, I just feel overjoyed to have the chance to do this with some of the closest people in my life."

Flug also said she plans to open next door called "Solo Club," which she claimed will be a playful nod to the old location, including using the old bar, stools, and lights.
