PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Providence Health & Services officials announced Thursday that their hospitals around the area will be limiting visitors due to the start of the flu season.

Health experts declared Thursday the beginning of this year's flu season.

All eight of the Portland hospitals will be putting visitor restrictions on their facilities.

Some of the restrictions include:

  • No visitors under 18, except immediate family (restriction includes immediate family at family birth centers)
  • No more than two visitors at a time
  • Patients with a fever and/or cough should wear a face mask
  • Staff may wear masks, gloves, etc. and separate patient care areas where necessary to limit spread of viruses

In addition, Providence encourages anyone who does not feel well to stay home.

Providence hospitals are also requiring all employees who have not received this season’s flu vaccine to wear a mask in patient care areas.
