CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The body of a missing man was recovered in the Collawash River days after a truck he was riding in crash into the water.

A family member of Irinei Burkoff, 26, of Woodburn, spotted his body at 3 p.m. Wednesday around two miles downstream from the crash site east of Estacada.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said a recovery operation was launched that included loading his body onto an inflatable craft to cross the river and then ropes were used to climb a 60-foot cliff.

The recovery efforts took more than four hours.

The deputy medical examiner and family members on scene confirmed the identity of the body as Burkoff.

Burkoff was one of three people in a pickup that crashed off Forest Service Road 63 near Forest Service Road 45 on Sunday. The road leads to Bagby Hot Springs.

A witness saw the truck in the water at around 3 a.m. Sunday and drove 30 minutes to a phone and called for help.

Emergency crews arrived and found a woman on the bank near the road and a teen on the other side of the river. They were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 19-year-old woman on the side of the road told investigators she was driving and lost control of the truck. The truck went off the roadway, down an embankment and into the river.

The woman said the 15-year-old girl was the middle passenger and a 26-year-old man was in the front passenger seat.

They did not see the man, later identified as Burkoff, get out of the truck.

The roof of the truck was upward of four feet under water and the current was too strong for search crews to safely investigate the truck to see if anyone was trapped inside.

Crews searched the river banks, but did not find Burkoff.

The truck was removed from the river Monday, but there was still no sign of Burkoff.

After his body was found Wednesday, deputies said his death was the result of the crash and related conditions and foul play is not suspected.
