LEBANON, OR (KPTV) -

A 78-year-old Lebanon man admitted to detectives that he sexually abused a developmentally delayed 28-year-old woman, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Richard Wade Conklin went to the sheriff's office to talk to detectives about the allegations.

During his interview, deputies said Conklin admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the woman. He told investigators he is a friend of her family.

Conklin admitted knowing the victim was developmentally delayed and said the abuse had started several years ago, according to the sheriff's office.

"He admitted it was wrong of him to do so," a sheriff's office release states.

Conklin was arrested Wednesday and booked in the Linn County Jail on charges including first-degree sex abuse and first-degree sodomy.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective Beth Miller at 541-967-3820.
