Three people, dog rescued after two vehicle accident along Hwy 101

DEPOE BAY, OR (KPTV) -

Depoe Bay Firefighters rescued three people and a dog using the jaws of life after a two vehicle crash along Highway 101.

Depoe Bay Fire District said the responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 101 at Cape Foulweather around 3:45 p.m. Friday.

When crews arrived they found one of the vehicles down a 30 foot embankment. Firefighters used ladders and ropes to get to the victims trapped in the car.

Crews had to use the jaws of life to extricate the victims. 

A total of three people were freed from both vehicles and taken to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

Once all human patients were freed, crews worked in the second car up on the highway to free a dog that was trapped.

According to Depoe Bay Fire Chief Joshua Williams "a large breed dog was wedged under the passenger seat of a vehicle, the dogs head was in the front foot area, and the rear paws were in the back." The entire length to the dog was trapped under the seat and unable to be freed. 

Crews used the jaws of life to free the dog. Within about 10 minutes the dog was free and taken to a local veterinary clinic to be checked out.

Depoe Bay Fire Dist said they don't know the extent of the dogs injuries, but it looked like the dog was doing OK.
