PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who is sick in the hospital got to marry the love of his life thanks to the staff at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center.

When Orin Johnson found out how sick he was, he told his doctor he wanted to marry the woman he has been with for the last 30 years.

Friday morning, Orin Johnson proposed to Shirley.

After she said yes, the mad dash began to get her to the courthouse with the papers and money to get the license so they could get married that day.

Chaplain Rick Freeman and social worker Trisha Shogren worked together with the courts to find out the cost of the license and how much it would cost to waive the three-day waiting period.

By the afternoon the two were married.

Staff at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center decorated the waiting room with flowers and balloons.

About 25 hospital workers, as well as 10 visitors were in attendance for the ceremony.
