CORNELIUS, OR (KPTV) -

A Cornelius man was arrested Saturday night, accused of crashing into a parked van while under the influence and then driving away, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the hit-and-run crash on South Dogwood Street just before 9:20 p.m.

A witness described hearing the crash, and seeing a red pickup truck with a canopy driving away.

Deputies said a few minutes later, dispatch received a call from John Nelson, 46, of Cornelius reporting he was in a crash, and the car left the scene.

When deputies responded to Nelson’s home on the same street the van was hit, they found the damage to his pickup truck was consistent with hitting the parked van down the street.

Deputies determined Nelson was intoxicated and responsible for crashing into the van.

Nelson was arrested for DUII, reckless driving, hit-and-run, criminal mischief II, and initiating a false report.
