Man killed in crash on I-84 near North Powder

NORTH POWDER, OR (KPTV) -

A Vancouver man was killed in a fatal crash on I-84 westbound near milepost 281 near North Powder Sunday while he was trying to chain up, according to Oregon State Police.

According to preliminary investigation, Igor Nikolaychuk, 50, was outside of his semi-tractor/trailer in the process of chaining up near the left rear axle, of the trailer.

Mckenna Hamilton, 21, of Star Idaho was driving a 2007 Cadillac westbound when the vehicle began to slide sideways on the highway.

The driver’s side front pumper then struck Nikolaychuk, and pushed him underneath the trailer.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said at the time of the crash, the roads were icy and foggy, and visibility was reduced to ¼ of a mile.

Hamilton was wearing a safety belt, according to Oregon State Police.
