Beachgoers got an unusual sight this weekend on the coast where a humpback whale washed up on a Seaside beach.

The 24-foot long mammal was found Sunday morning in north Seaside.

The manager at Seaside Aquarium said the whale was no more than a year old before it died.

The whale has been fenced off on the beach, but the public can still see it.

Beachgoers are asked to keep their distance and make sure pets do the same.

"If you want to come check it out, it's cool but try not to touch it. We don't know if it had any kind of disease, so just use caution. They're cool to look at but just keep a little distance. Make sure your dogs don't get up on it or anything because they could get sick with whatever disease it may have," said Keith Chandler, General Manager at Seaside Aquarium.

Portland State Marine Biologists will now examine the body to figure out why the whale died.
