PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The driver of a car being pursued by Portland Police Bureau officers Monday night on the city’s east side rammed into a patrol car while attempting to escape.

East precinct officers tried to pull over Pierre Sails, 26, in the area of Southeast 136th Avenue and Division Street just after 8:00 p.m., when he sped away leading police in a chase.

Officers were able to catch up with the vehicle driven by Sails and apply a Pursuit Intervention Technique, or PIT, maneuver, to spin out the car.

Sails them sped up and rammed into one of the pursuit vehicles before being arrested. During his arrest officers determined he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

No officers were injured in the pursuit, and the Major Crash Team conducted an investigation of the crash scene.

Sails has been arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail and faces charges including assault, attempt to elude by vehicle, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
