PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A southeast Portland family is hoping whoever hit their dog on I-205 will come forward.

Jamie Husted was at work around noon Monday when she got a call from her dog sitter. Her 2-year-old boxer mix Bruno pushed his way out of the front door
and ran away.

Husted and her friend searched for a couple hours and said they finally connected with animal control officers who had Bruno cornered. He was obviously hurt and bleeding, so they took him to an animal hospital.

Officers said Bruno managed to get on I-205 above Southeast 92nd and Flavel, where he got hit and then flew off the overpass.

Investigators think he got hit again down below. Bruno’s right leg is broken, his left paw is injured and he has internal injuries. Husted doesn’t blame the driver who hit him on the freeway, but she’s hoping that person will come forward to possibly help with the dog’s care.

“I’ve got two little girls who are heartbroken,” said Husted. “Just not knowing if he’s going to make it. He’s like a child to us. And our dog’s going to die if we don’t get any kind of help.”

Surgery to fix Bruno’s leg will cost several thousand dollars, but he may also need to have it amputated. The dog’s owners have set up a GoFundMe page to help with his vet bills.
