Former Blazer Cliff Robinson serves as keynote speaker at OR marijuana event

Marijuana has become big business in Oregon and Washington, and on Thursday thousands came out to the Expo Center to learn more about it. One of the keynote speakers at the event was a former Trail Blazer.

Retired Blazer Cliff Robinson spoke at the Cannabis Collaborative Conference held at the Portland Expo Center.

Robinson didn't talk about his fame during his speech but instead about being a part of a team of new business owners.

"This is probably going to be the most important team I'll ever be a part of."

Robinson hopes to get new businesses, including his, off on the right foot by setting goals which include stopping what he calls the stigma of cannabis use.

"Once I started playing, I started setting little goals for myself. I think that is what we should do as businesses, continue to set little goals for ourselves."

Robinson also wants athletes to be able to turn to cannabis to help with medical problems like he once did while playing in the NBA.

"Athletes and drugs period, that's always been a taboo combination. The more guys who come out and speak a positive voice behind it, the more we will be able to knock that stigma down."

Robinson was suspended twice for using marijuana during his career when it was still illegal, but now he hopes other retired athletes will come out in support.

For now, Robinson is focusing on his own business called Uncle Spliffy. It's a play on his old nickname, Uncle Cliffy.

"It's funny, but it stuck. Just like Uncle Cliffy stuck, Uncle Spliffy is doing the same thing."

His business will be online only to start, but he knows that other people like him trying to start up will need a little help.

"We really have to look at it as a team. You know, I've always been a part of a team and this might be one of the most important teams I've been a part of."

Robinson says while he is pushing for cannabis, he also wants to keep marijuana away from kids. He suggested the possibility of coming out with a public service announcement.
