Police searching for burglary suspect in NW Portland

Posted: Updated:

Portland Police are searching for a man involved in a burglary of a northwest Portland house early Friday morning.

The incident took place on NW Devoto Ln. just before 5 a.m.

Police said the owner of the home woke up to some sort of noise and went to check it out.

"I got up and went to investigate, got to the top of the stairs and there was a guy with a computer keyboard and his hands in his pockets. And he said that, he said go back upstairs or I'll shoot."

The owner ran back to his bedroom and hid in a closet while he called 911.

"It probably took about 10 minutes but it seemed like forever. They searched the house with the dog, told me to stay in the closet. Then when they searched everywhere, they told me to come out with my hands up to avoid confusion."

Officials said the suspect left the house shortly after with a 12-year-old computer and a keyboard.

The homeowner said it looks like the suspect tried to take a big screen TV and his car, but left both behind.

"Apparently, he put my car in reverse, backed it out a few feet. I'm not sure whether it was he couldn't drive stick shift or what happened, or it was just because he got startled and ran off on foot."

The homeowner told FOX 12 he still feels very scared and vulnerable.

Police and K-9 officers searched the area, but there was no sign of the man.

According to police, the suspect is described as a black man, 6' tall, wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants.

Police said no one was injured.
