Police: Salem hit-and-run driver leaves behind critically injured passenger

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A hit-and-run driver ran away from the scene of a crash, leaving behind a critically injured passenger.

Emergency crews responded to Portland Road Northeast and Hyacinth Street in Salem at 10 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses told police a 2007 Chrysler 300 was heading south on Portland Road when a northbound 2000 BMW turned left into its path, causing a T-bone crash.

The driver of the Chrysler, 31-year-old Valeria Garcia of Woodburn, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the BMW ran away before officers arrived, according to police, leaving behind a passenger identified as 22-year-old Taylor Goulet of Salem.

Goulet was taken to the hospital with injuries described by officers as life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the Salem Police Department's Traffic Control Unit. Anyone with additional information is asked to call police at 503-588-6171.
