Man gunned down in Gresham parking lot; police investigating attack

Posted: Updated: Feb 05, 2016 08:22 PM

Police say a man was gunned down in a Gresham parking lot Friday afternoon. Investigators say they are trying to figure out what led up to the violent attack.

This all happened around 2:30 pm near the intersection of SE 174th and Stark. Police have not released the man’s name, but confirm he was an adult black male.

One witness, who asked FOX 12 to conceal her identity, says she was working nearby when she heard something going on outside and went to the window. The woman said it appeared everyone involved in the shooting showed up together.

“It was just a crazy moment,” said the woman. “He was with them in the car and they dropped him off over there. They threw a shoe or something, maybe his clothes at him, and after that they started shooting at him. I told everybody to throw themselves on the floor, I just started screaming I didn’t know what to do.”

The woman says she then watched as the suspects drove off and police swarmed the neighborhood.

“I was really scared, nervous and sad seeing the guy still on the floor,” she added.

Washington State Patrol tells FOX 12 they got a call from investigators asking for their help chasing down a car that was possibly involved in the Gresham shooting. They were told the suspects were armed and dangerous.

AIR 12 was overhead when that daring chase ended on I-5 near Kalama.  Troopers say they laid spike strips down twice before slowing the car down, and then using a PIT maneuver they stopped the car in the middle of the freeway.

Troopers say no one was hurt and they took three people into custody, they add that guns were clearly visible inside of their car.

The suspects, identified as Rony Celis, 23, of Renton Washington, Charles Moimoi, 20, of Seatac Washington, and Clayton Harrell of Des Moines Washington were booked into Cowlitz County Jail on charges related to homicide, according to Gresham Police.

Gresham Police say it’s unclear if the shooting is gang related at this hour.

The victim's name has not been released at this time.

If you have any information in regards to this case is asked to call Gresham Police at 503-618-2719.
