GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

The family of a 22-year-old man are searching for answers after he was shot and killed in broad daylight in a Gresham parking lot.

Ravell Deshawn Sterling grew up in Portland and attended Jefferson High School.

Family says Ravell was a positive, outgoing man of faith, who loved sports and music. He was also the father of an 8-month-old little girl.

FOX 12 spoke with Ravell's father, Morris Sterling, who lives in North Carolina.

"To lose a child, as a parent, has got to be the toughest thing that I've been through," said Morris Sterling.

Gresham Police say Ravell was shot and killed near SE 174th and Stark on Friday after an attempted robbery "did not go as planned", according to court documents

Shortly after the shooting, police say the suspects led them on a chase that crossed state lines and officers had to use spike strips to finally stop the car on I-5 near Kalama.

The three suspects, Rony Celis, Charles Moimoi and Clayton Harrel, were arrested.

The suspects appeared in court for the first time on Monday. According to court documents, they all face murder charges in Oregon.

Ravell's family said they are hoping to host a memorial service early next week.
