VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a Vancouver apartment building early Tuesday morning.

Officials said the fire started at the Redwood Acres apartment complex at 3409 NE 62nd Ave. around 5:30 a.m.

The Vancouver Fire Department said they responded quickly and were able to keep the blaze in one unit on the third floor.

Firefighters said the sprinkler system helped contain the blaze but there is quite a bit of water damage on all three floors of the complex.

No one was in the apartment at the time of fire, according to fire crews.

Officials said although the fire was only in one unit, the units are close together and a second alarm was triggered.

Irina Simonov told FOX 12 that several neighbors, unaware that the apartment was empty, saw the fire and kicked in the apartment door to make sure everyone was okay.

"We saw the fire and it was in the window," said Simonov. " I had the boys go up there and kick the door down to make sure nobody was in there."

Officials said there were no injuries.

Firefighters said blaze may have been caused by either a candle or a cigarette left unattended.
