Flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen Seaside officer

SEASIDE, OR (KPTV) -

Flags will be lowered statewide on Feb. 12 in honor of Sgt. Jason Goodding who was killed on duty Feb. 5.

Governor Kate Brown ordered all flags at public institutions to be lowered.

"Sergeant Goodding served the Seaside Police Department for 13 years, always putting the safety of his community first," said Governor Brown. "Please join me in keeping Jason's family, friends, and the community of Seaside in your thoughts. His sacrifice will never be forgotten."

Vigils have been held in honor of Sgt. Goodding, including one in his hometown of Sherwood.

The Goodding family will hold a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Seaside Convention Center. The public is invited to attend.
