Any parent will tell you that having three children younger than age four is challenging enough. Now, throw cancer into the mix.

A Vancouver family who lived through it say the Children’s Cancer Association helped them get through an incredibly challenging time, with joy and laughter.

Fynn was diagnosed with ALL, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, right before his fourth birthday. The CCA reached out to his parents, Kate and Garrett Nackerud, and matched Fynn with Ed, a CCA chemo pal.

During Fynn’s chemotherapy treatments, Ed brought games, toys and plenty of laughter to brighten the time in the hospital.

"Looking back, it’s hard to know how you get through each day … you take it a day at a time," said Kate. "I think having programs like CCA, they were really a means that God provided to help bring a bright spot and joy … for our whole family and especially Fynn."

Fynn is now seven, and he just finished chemotherapy. He is healthy, and Ed is still like a member of the family.

Kate says Fynn’s memories of the hard times during chemotherapy are fading away, and he only talks about the fun with Ed. She says a big part of that was the support from CCA.

You can help the CCA right now by donating to the V-Day for CCA campaign.
