CLARK COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

A Columbia River High School student was taken into custody after he assaulted a fellow classmate on Thursday.

Clark County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the assault around 11:00 a.m.

According to CCSO, a CRHS male student confronted another male student and struck the victim over the head with a metal club like instrument and then fled the scene.

The victim was treated at the school by EMS for an open laceration to his head. He was then taken to a nearby hospital. His wound is not life threatening.

CCSO said the suspect student was found on school grounds and taken into custody. He was booked into the Clark Co. Juvenile Detention facility on a felony assault charge.

According to CCSO, due to the severity of the assault, detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are conducting the investigation.

Nine Search and Rescue volunteers from four different SAR organizations responded to the school at the request of detectives and searched a wooden ravine northeast of the school.

SAR teams found the weapon used in the assault in the dense underbrush and it was recovered by investigators
