Local family to receive special needs shopping cart

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A special shopping cart is looking to make life a little easier for children with special needs.

James Hanset, president of the nonprofit The Great Bacon Race, said he recently learned about Caroline's Cart, a specially designed shopping cart for children who have trouble standing or walking.

After looking at the shopping carts in Vancouver, Hanset realized there are not a lot of options for special-needs children. He bought one, and now he is giving it to a local family.

"The goal behind it wasn't to put our foundation on the forefront of anything, it was just to help people recognize that there are ways and services available if you know how to get to them," Hanset said.

He hopes to have all retail stores in Clark County own at least one cart.

Hanset will present the cart to the unsuspecting family on Feb. 20 at the Fisher’s Landing Fred Meyer in Vancouver.
