Friends, neighbors gather at makeshift memorials to honor Sgt. Goodding

Community members gathered all around seaside Friday to watch a live feed of Sgt. Jason Goodding's memorial service.

Dundee's Bar and Grill in Seaside was one of many places where makeshift memorials for Goodding popped up, created by the many people wanting to send their thoughts to the fallen officer’s family.

"There wasn't anybody who didn’t know him,” Goodding friend Matt Beasley said. “He was the nicest person anybody could possibly call a friend, and I think the turn out today proves it.”

It was a packed house in Dundee’s, where friends and even strangers gathered to watch a live feed of the memorial service from across town.

A group of friends who went to high school with Goodding and knew him well were among those remembering the officer. Friday was a reunion of sorts, as they reminisced about the man their classmate was.

"He had a realization what his path in life was,” Shane Krieder said. “In high school I had some issues and he definitely helped me through them. That is why I'm here."

The group also shared the heartwarming memories of watching Goodding and his wife Amy grow up together.

"We watched Amy grow up. We watched the romance happen. They are our high school Prince Charming and Snow White,” Beasley said.

Goodding’s buddies said they're better people just for knowing him, and hope that others will be also.

"The best hope outcome for this, for everybody's exposure to this, is everybody who's in there and everybody who is experiencing the kind of person he was, and the kind of people he surrounded himself with and changed throughout life, that they walk home with some of that to their agency, to their hometown and that this spreads,” Beasley hoped.

People also watched a live feed of the memorial at Seaside High School and the North Coast Family Fellowship.
