Paralympians compete in goalball tournament

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

The Olympic summer games are just months away. This year, it is being held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Some Paralympians were in the pacific northwest this weekend for the Cascade Classic goalball tournament.

The tournament was held at the Washington State School for the Blind.

Goalball is a Paralympic sport played by people who are blind or visually impaired.

Al competitors wear masks to equalize their impairment, and then throw a three pound ball with bells inside into a goal.

Fourteen teams from across the country were in town for the tournament, and three members of the US national team are on the Rose City Thorns team.

The national goalball tournament will be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana this summer.
